Summary The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for running job sites, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. This process‑driven leader maintains project schedules, oversees field personnel, and coordinates with project managers, suppliers, and vendors. The position reports to the Field Operations Manager and requires up to 100% travel as needed for projects.
Essential Job Function & Responsibilities
Work directly with the Regional Manager and project managers to implement project goals.
Assign duties to staff to achieve project objectives.
Oversee project elements and provide assistance to ensure timely execution.
Review project implementation and gather data for performance analysis.
Coordinate with Construction Managers, project managers, and other leads during execution.
Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to secure necessary materials.
Communicate delays and issues to clients.
Complete tasks assigned by the Regional Manager efficiently and promptly.
Identify safety concerns and implement prevention measures.
Report completed portions of the previous week that meet or exceed the Project Schedule.
Create and maintain a project task schedule and a 3‑week look‑ahead.
Attend weekly project meetings.
Discuss change events and manage staff and subcontractor performance.
Conduct quality control inspections, documentation, and electronic submittals.
Perform safety inspections, documentation, and electronic submittals.
Oversee crew operations and management.
Maintain crew production schedule and lead safety toolbox talks.
Comply with Job Hazard Analysis and Site‑Specific Safety Plan.
Identify punch list items and observations from prior weeks.
Complete all close‑out documentation and QA/QC checklists.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of commercial or utility‑scale solar PV mechanical foreman experience.
2+ years of commercial or utility‑scale solar PV mechanical superintendent or construction management experience.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in major construction projects, preferably power stations or supply networks.
Experience with multiple racking manufacturers, subcontractors, and pile driver manufacturers.
Willingness to travel and relocate between projects.
Experience with MS Project or comparable project management tools (preferred).
Experience with Procore (preferred).
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Fluent in written and spoken English with excellent communication skills.
Experience reviewing mechanical installation and design technical packages.
Assertive, able to cope with pressure, and maintain a team‑player attitude.
Ability to learn and apply applicable local, state, and federal statutes and guidelines.
Attention to detail and ability to work in a time‑conscious manner.
Capability to interact with Owner’s Field Representatives and outside testing agencies.
Experience operating construction equipment, pile drivers, and GPS surveying equipment.
Knowledge of mechanical system installation methods.
Understanding of preventative maintenance, greasing, fuel handling, and warranty procedures.
Experience with QA/QC inspection.
Ability to update drawings for as‑built conditions.
Experience supervising pile pull testing and refusal logs.
Physical Demands
Ability to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights and confined spaces.
Ability to walk or move continuously while carrying up to 50 lb. of tools and/or materials (assistance recommended for > 50 lb.).
Must stand or walk for extended periods.
Must work extended hours on uneven surfaces, handling repetitive movement.
