Administrative Specialist, Academic – First-Year Programs Department First-Year & Transition Programs in the Office of Student Success seeks an Administrative Specialist who will focus on retention by helping students make successful transitions in critical academic program areas. The role will assist with delivering programs focused on undergraduate students’ needs, primarily those in their first year, supporting Georgia State’s Strategic Plan goals and commitment to helping students from all backgrounds succeed.

Responsibilities The Academic Specialist will:

Work with campus partners in Admissions, Financial Aid, and University Housing to create robust and enticing events and activities supporting recruitment of students from all FYTP special populations.

Recruit current GSU students into FYTP programs, including but not limited to Accelerator, GSU 1050, and Transition Scholars.

Coordinate timely and relevant marketing and communication to support recruitment and retention efforts for all programs.

Attend high‑school recruitment events such as college fairs, classroom visits, and counselor education sessions to provide information about all FYTP programs.

Ensure successful onboarding of students, including completion of admissions requirements, FAFSA, and New Student Orientation registration.

Attend New Student Orientation to support onboarding of first‑year students.

Assist with all other administrative tasks related to recruitment and onboarding of students.

Support engagement activities and events designed to facilitate the smooth transition from high school to college.

Support engagement activities and events designed for participation in FYTP programs.

Answer email inquiries from students, family members, instructors, faculty, and staff via the relevant First‑Year & Transition Programs email accounts.

Contribute to First‑Year & Transition Program initiatives and events, including presentations, workshops, outreach, and administrative processing.

Teach GSU 1010 as part of program requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and four years administrative experience; or high‑school diploma or GED and eight years administrative experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred: Master’s degree and experience in creating and implementing retention and progression programs; experience presenting to small and large groups; effective verbal and written communication skills.
