Job Summary
Provides intermediate, skilled, and technical communications support to implement the City’s communications and public relations strategy. Performs work under general supervision of the Communications Manager.
Physical Demands
Sedentary work requiring up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
Requires mental acuity to make rational decisions.
Physical abilities: Hearing, Manual Dexterity, Repetitive Motion, Vocal Communication, Visual Acuity.
Essential Job Functions
Assist the Communications Manager in implementing the Communications Plan and developing strategies aligned with the City’s mission and goals.
Support creation, editing, and distribution of print and digital content, including newsletters, brochures, social media posts, and website updates.
Identify and share community stories to foster civic pride.
Collaborate with city departments to gather information for engaging content.
Monitor and manage the City’s social media platforms, responding to comments and concerns.
Maintain digital content calendars for timely communications.
Track and report communications analytics to assess effectiveness.
Participate in developing communication materials for stakeholders, ensuring clarity and brand consistency.
Draft press releases, media advisories, and other public announcements.
Assist with organizing special events, press conferences, and community meetings.
Stay updated on emerging trends in digital communication and social media.
Perform related tasks as required.
Qualifications Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience in communications, public relations, social media management, or related field. A college degree in marketing, communications, public relations, graphic design, or related field is preferred and may substitute for up to two years of experience.
Special Qualifications:
Valid driver’s license in the State of Florida.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of communications principles, including print, website, and social media platforms.
Knowledge of content creation, copywriting, and copy editing with strong attention to detail.
Familiarity with graphic design, layout, and publishing concepts.
Working knowledge of content management systems, social media tools, and digital marketing practices.
Basic understanding of analytics tools and performance metrics related to communications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and digital content tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express).
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
Ability to learn new communication technologies and platforms.
Ability to work collaboratively.
Strong organizational skills and adaptability.
Professional communication internally and externally.
