PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The primary role of the seasonal Head Counselor position is to serve as a resource for camp counselors in all aspects of their day-to-day responsibilities. The head counselor should be an exemplary counselor who can step in wherever needed throughout the summer, understands the mission and vision of the Diocese of Green Bay and Camp Tekakwitha, serves the campers, staff, and community deeply rooted in the Catholic faith, and models excellence for the camp counselors, kitchen aides, and counselors in training. This individual must align with the basic doctrine of the Catholic Church and act as a Missionary Disciple with a servant heart.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
19 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license
First aid/CPR certified (or willing to be trained)
Lifeguard certification preferred (or willing to be trained)
Understanding of the mission/vision of Camp Tekakwitha
Understanding of Catholic Church teachings and practices
Background as a Camp Counselor, at least one year of previous youth camp staff experience (preferably at Camp Tekakwitha)
Knowledge of human development for program implementation and age-specific activities
Proficiency with conflict resolution and problem solving
Proficient listener and communicator with people from all walks of life
Adequate knowledge of the summer camp world, youth programming, and Catholicism
Collaborative decision-making skills and conflict management
Ability to work well with people of all backgrounds and all ages
Strong relational ability to serve as a member of a team, work independently, lead small groups, and work one on one
Competency in aligning to mission/vision, state standards, and ACA regulations
Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Excellent verbal communication skills
Strong decision-making skills
Time management
