Summary/Purpose

The Associate HR Generalist is responsible for supporting both safety initiatives and employee relations at the Orangeburg Distribution Center. This role plays a key part in fostering a safe, compliant, and positive work environment by coordinating safety programs, training, and compliance reporting while also serving as a resource for employees and managers on HR-related matters. The coordinator partners with Operations, the corporate MESH group, and Human Resources to ensure compliance with OSHA standards, company policies, and employment regulations. In addition, this position provides day-to-day HR support in areas such as onboarding, benefits, employee inquiries, and leave administration, helping to strengthen employee engagement and overall workplace culture.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:

Safety

Ensure compliance with industry standards, government regulations, and corporate MESH guidelines.

Assist Warehouse leadership with tracking and completion of annual safety plan.

Collect and report monthly safety data and report as necessary.

Maintain and upgrade the DC Safety Dojo as necessary to promote a continuous improvement of safety culture.

Facilitate the Safety Guardian program, including training and administration.

Conduct risk assessments to identify and prevent workplace injuries.

Administration of the plants 5S program.

Inspire associates to be engaged and involved in improving the safety of their work area utilizing aspects of the Safety Scorecard.

Partner with the MESH group, attend corporate safety meetings, and provide required updates.

Manage OSHA 300 logs, track injury reports, and conduct accident investigations.

Work with Training and Quality Analyst to coordinate annual safety training (forklift certification, first aid, etc.)

Support HR Supervisor with workers’ compensation claims.

Employee Relations & HR Support

Serve as the first point of contact for employee inquiries.

Interpret and communicate company policies and procedures.

Support the hiring process: schedule interviews, arrange drug screens/background checks, verify new hire paperwork, and conduct orientations.

Manage badges, t-shirt orders, and annual safety shoe program.

Maintain local personnel files and prepare necessary HR reports.

Administer tuition reimbursement and contingent workforce reporting.

Assist HR Supervisor with associate relations issues, investigations, and complaints from the Compliance & Ethics Help Line.

Process and track FMLA leaves for Orangeburg.

Explain and support health and welfare benefits during orientation, assist with open enrollment, and ensure HIPAA compliance.

Lead the Employee Relations Committee and coordinate yearly activities to engage workforce.

Work with leadership to ensure smooth bi-weekly payroll process.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of OSHA standards, safety practices, and HR basics (onboarding, benefits, FMLA, employee relations).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office; payroll experience a plus.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Good organizational and problem-solving ability.

Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Comfortable leading training sessions.

Team-oriented, but able to work independently.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) with emphasis in Human Resource Management, Business Education, Operations Management or technical field.

2–3 years of HR or safety experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution environment preferred.

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

Work is mostly performed in a shop floor/distribution center setting with normal exposure to health or safety hazards, and with substantial time spent working on a computer.

The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to shop (warehouse/production) areas which may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes and protective gloves.

Position will require moderate lifting of cartons between 20 and 40 lbs. Occasionally cartons weighing over 40 lbs

Knowledge of and adherence to all safety guidelines and standards.

Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 5% of time

Employee may perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
