Director of Business Development – Engineering & Architecture
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Business Development with deep expertise in the civil engineering, architecture, and/or construction industries to lead our firm’s strategic growth initiatives. This executive role is responsible for shaping long-term business strategy, building new client relationships, and expanding our market opportunities, particularly in the data center sector. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing key relationships, winning work in the civil engineering, architecture, and/or construction industries. This role is instrumental in identifying new business opportunities, strengthening client engagement, and supporting the firm’s long-term growth objectives.
Strategic Growth & Market Development
Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with firm-wide goals in engineering and architecture markets.
Identify and pursue new business opportunities in public and private sectors in the market.
Monitor industry trends and emerging markets to position the firm competitively.
Client Development & Relationship Management
Cultivate and manage key relationships with clients, partners, agencies, developers, and government entities.
Serve as a trusted advisor and primary contact for high-value clients.
Oversee development of proposals, RFQs/RFPs, and presentations in collaboration with leadership.
Guide project pursuit strategies and ensure alignment with client needs and firm capabilities.
Collaboration & Team Leadership
Work closely with Principals, Project Managers, and Market Sector Leaders to align business development efforts with operational goals.
Foster a collaborative culture that supports knowledge-sharing and cross-selling among disciplines.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Architecture, Marketing, Business, or a related field; MBA or Masters in Engineering or Architecture preferred.
Minimum 8-10 years of experience in a related field, with at least 5 years in a strategic or business development role within the industry.
Proven ability to lead and win complex pursuits and strategic partnerships.
Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
Existing network in the data center ecosystem (developers, owners, engineering firms, utilities).

Location: Scottsdale, AZ, Greater Phoenix Area Salary: $150,000 – $190,000
