Shift: School Days: 7:15 AM - 3:15 PM; Additional nights/weekends as needed.
Non-School Days: 8:00 AM - 1:00 PM; Hours may vary requiring flexibility.
Classification: Full Time, Exempt
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Direct Reports: Human Resources Manager

Position Summary
The Director of Human Resources provides strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of Human Resources at Detroit Catholic Central High School. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining HR programs, policies, and practices that support the School's mission, values, and operational goals. The Director serves as a trusted advisor to the administration on personnel matters and ensures compliance with applicable employment laws and Archdiocesan policies.
Responsibilities • Provide strategic counsel to the Administration on human resources matters, including employee relations, compliance, compensation, and workforce planning. • Oversee and support the HR Manager in the daily operations of the Human Resources Office. • Lead the development and maintenance of employment policies, procedures, and the Employee Handbook to ensure alignment with legal and organizational standards. • Administer and manage benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, COBRA, HSA, FSA, 403(b), and pension plans. • Manage open enrollment, employee benefit changes, and vendor relationships with third-party administrators. • Oversee payroll-related functions in collaboration with the Director of Finance. • Coordinate professional development and performance evaluation processes for faculty and staff. • Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws, regulations, Michigan, and Archdiocesan requirements, including Protecting God's Children. • Manage employee relations, counseling, and disciplinary actions with professionalism and discretion. • Maintain accurate HR records and documentation; oversee audits, reporting, and data integrity. • Coordinate Workers' Compensation, FMLA, and Unemployment claims using third-party administrators as appropriate. • Support the CFO with HR-related budget preparation, forecasting, and cost management. • Lead HR communications and initiatives that promote a positive, mission-centered workplace culture. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.
Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field. Master's degree preferred. • Minimum of 10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification preferred. • Experience making strategic human resources decisions that align with the organization's vision. • Ability to maintain flexibility when faced with complex and ambiguous situations. • Strong working knowledge of employment law, benefits administration, and HR best practices. • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. • Demonstrated ability to lead with integrity, discretion, and sound judgment. • Proficiency in HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Teams, and Google Workspace. • Experience in general accounting and payroll processes preferred. • Ability to build and maintain confidential and professional relationships with all constituents. • Completion (or willingness to complete) the Archdiocese of Detroit's Protecting God's Children course. • Must submit to drug testing, fingerprinting, and criminal background check.
