Part Time School Adjustment Counselor at Fairhaven High School

This position is 12 hours per week at Fairhaven High School: School Adjustment Counselor uses individual and group interventions to promote the social/emotional well-being of students and to help students cope with personal and psychological issues that affect their school performance. Work with other high school counselors in coordinating clinical services to students, provide counseling services to students, and promote the ongoing development of each student's academic, personal/social, and career potential. Act as a liaison among family, school, and social agencies to obtain for families, individual children and school personnel those services needed to support the social/emotional needs of students. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists students in the smooth transition from middle school to high school. 2. Provides immediate interventions to students in crisis in a constructive, supportive, and nonjudgmental manner. 3. Provides individual and group counseling and mediation services for students. 4. Consults with staff and families in order to provide appropriate information and support services. 5. Assists families in addressing school-related problems and issues. 6. Coordinates referrals of students to outside agencies. 7. Consults with outside agencies to coordinate services and interventions and to provide and obtain necessary information in order to help students deal with economic, emotional, physical, and academic challenges. 8. Contributes to Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development and implementation as assigned. 9. Works with guidance counselors to plan, implement, and revise the school counseling program. 10. Communicates with the Acushnet Director of Student Services in order to meet the social/emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of Acushnet students.
