Job Summary
Key responsibilities:
Educational Instruction:
Coordinate with teachers to integrate garden activities with the school's curriculum. Lead students in hands-on activities like planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting.
Garden Management and Maintenance:
Maintain the health and appearance of the garden, including weeding, planting, and harvesting. Work with the Maintenance and Operations department to build/develop planter boxes, plant structures, and other related garden necessities. Manage irrigation systems, soil health, and pest control. Purchase supplies and maintain an inventory of tools and materials. Community and School Collaboration: Coordinate with teachers, administrators, and other school staff. Engage and supervise parent and community volunteers with garden activities and events. Promote the garden through communication, presentations, and outreach.
Required skills and qualifications:
Experience with gardening, horticulture, and/or environmental science. Strong teaching and communication skills, with the ability to work with children. Ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of community members. Adaptability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Knowledge of nutrition and food systems is often a plus.
