From sales and margin to operations and expenses, our Finance team delivers consistent, accurate information to cross-functional partners, supporting PetSmart's growth initiatives. About the Role Position Summary As the Finance Manager - Costing Operations, you will be responsible for leading all financial aspects of product costing throughout the merchandise retail business. This critical role supports gross margin performance, vendor negotiations, and vendor funding tracking. You will work closely with Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Inventory teams to ensure accurate landed cost assumptions, monitor cost trends, and proactively identify opportunities for margin improvement. Key Responsibilities Lead financial support for cost change impact analysis, focusing on vendor increases and freight changes. Manage validations of market costs for commodities and provide costing recommendations to facilitate vendor negotiations, while ensuring alignment between Finance, Merchandising, and Supply Chain. Act as a key finance lead during vendor negotiations (Joint Business Planning), delivering cost history, scenario modeling, and margin impact assessments. Collaborate with Inventory and Logistics teams on landed cost modeling (freight, duties, handling) to identify areas of cost leakage. Coordinate with Accounting on month-end close activities related to cost of goods sold (COGS), inventory reserves, and margin variances. Develop and maintain financial models and dashboards for tracking cost trends, product-level margin performance, and cost-saving initiatives. Create various ad-hoc support analyses across multiple departments, including store-level sales analysis and planning. Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership, merchandising teams, and executive stakeholders. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. 5-7 years of experience in FP&A, Cost Accounting, or Category Finance. Strong understanding of retail product costing, COGS, and gross margin analytics. Experience collaborating with Merchandising and Supply Chain in a retail or CPG environment. Advanced Excel skills; familiar with forecasting/reporting tools (e.g., BPC, SAP, Alteryx, Power BI).
