Description: A professional nurse is an individual accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care. Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are a priority for the RN. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit. Promoting personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education is essential. The RN supervises both licensed and non-licensed staff members. Using the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care, the RN is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care. The RN ensures patient and family comforts, education, and satisfaction. The RN applies educational and professional experiences in delivering quality care and mentoring or precepting staff. Key Responsibilities include: Assessment: Performing assessments and reassessments as warranted by patient condition. The RN demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions. Development & Implementation: Initiating, prioritizing, and implementing the plan of care. Collaborating with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary services is crucial. Utilizing resources appropriately to support the needs of the patient and family is expected. Evaluation: Monitoring and documenting responses to clinical interventions. Education: Facilitating, coordinating, providing, and evaluating education specific to patient and family needs. Leadership: Delegating tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel. Functioning as a mentor or preceptor and facilitating teamwork are essential. Identifying and appropriately communicating opportunities for improvement is expected. Participating in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts and implementing practice changes is key. Compliance with regulatory standards is required. Participation in the Practice Governance model is necessary.
