Join our Human Resources team as an

Benefits Coordinator (HR Technician I/II – Confidential) , where you’ll play a key role in supporting the administration of employee benefits programs. This position provides technical and administrative support to ensure accurate processing, excellent customer service, and compliance with organizational policies and regulations. The County is seeking candidates who are interested in serving in the role of Benefits Technician as a backfill during the County's ERP implementation.

Under general supervision, performs paraprofessional, technical, and administrative work relating to county-wide human resources programs, including recruitment and selection, compensation, benefits, employee relations, performance management, risk management, HR information systems, and training.

Employees in this Confidential classification contribute to the development or implementation of the County's employee relations policies and/or in the course of their duties have access to information relating to the County's administration of employer-employee relations. Under State law and the County Employee Relations Policy, Confidential employees have different rights of representation than those of other non-management employees.

Typical Tasks and Representative Duties

Assists with the administration of a wide variety of benefit programs as directed, including: deferred compensation (457(b)), employee assistance program, wellness program, unemployment benefits, the Post-Employment Health Plan, wellness, and tuition reimbursement; assists with management and administration of enrollment including the organization and execution of the open enrollment process.

Advises employees on benefits and plan details, eligibility, cost and enrollment.

Creates and distributes benefit related materials such as newsletters and brochures.

Provides training and education; organizes and oversees the benefits fair; assists with the organization and execution of open enrollment administration and meetings.

Monitors, maintains and configures benefit-related systems and carrier interfaces: identifies and corrects enrollment discrepancies; ensures accurate transmittal of enrollment details to carriers; liaises between employees, payroll personnel, payroll coordinators, benefit carriers, and third-party administrators.

Performs accounts receivable and payable duties for retiree health premiums in coordination with Pension Trust; audits and corrects invoices for employee/retiree premiums and deductions.

Education and Experience A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:

Either A: Completion of one year (30 semester units or 45 quarter units) of college-level coursework at an accredited college or university in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, safety or industrial engineering, or a related social or behavioral science field.

Or B: One year of experience performing human resource management related work.

Additional standards for Human Resources Technician II:

Either A: Completion of two years (60 semester units or 90 quarter units) of college-level coursework at an accredited college or university in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, safety or industrial engineering, or a related social or behavioral science field.

Or B: Two years of experience performing human resource management related work.

Or C: One year of experience in the Human Resources Technician I class.
