Job Description ALTEN UK is a leading engineering and technology consultancy, partnering with major organisations across the Defence, Energy, Aerospace, and Nuclear sectors. We’re looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a cutting‑edge development programme within the nuclear energy domain.
This role sits within a Mechanical Development & Prototyping (MDP) team, focusing on the design, testing, and validation of mechanical systems and test rigs supporting the development of next‑energy technologies.
What you’ll be doing
Designing and supporting test rigs and mechanical development systems.
Conducting mechanical testing, validation, and verification activities.
Writing test plans, test cases, and technical reports.
Applying design for manufacturability, tolerancing, and modularisation principles.
De‑risking mechanical concepts through hands‑on testing and analysis.
Working collaboratively with multi‑disciplinary development teams.
Qualifications
6–10 years’ experience as a Mechanical Design or Development Engineer.
Background in a regulated industry – Nuclear (ideal), Defence, Aerospace, or Energy.
Understanding of systems design and engineering methods.
Strong technical reporting and documentation skills.
Familiarity with test rig processes and mechanical validation.
