Position Summary This professional-level Human Resources (HR) Consultant serves the Department of Medicine, overseeing HR activities for Health Care System employees. Responsibilities include interpreting University HR policies, consulting on classification, compensation, recruitment, employee relations, leave administration, and benefits. The incumbent collaborates with central offices (Office of Human Resources, Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office, University Payroll Services, HCS HR Office), and is the primary point of contact for HR matters within the department, school, and campus.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
Excellent oral and written communication skills, sound business judgment, tact and diplomacy.
Proficient knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations such as FLSA, FMLA, ADA.
Experience consulting on recruitment, compensation, employee relations, position classification, or benefits matters.
Customer‑service orientation with a “Can Do” mentality.
Ability to identify root causes of problems and propose logical solutions.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
Knowledge of PeopleSoft, lnfoPorte, and UNC TIM.
Thorough knowledge of UNC policies & procedures for SPA & EPA positions.
Prior experience in a higher‑education setting.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements None specified.
Campus Security Authority Responsibilities Not Applicable.
Special Instructions Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine’s Working Forward Initiative. The position’s work location is designated as virtual, though subject to change based on the unit’s business needs.
