Position Overview Strategic, results‑oriented Controller to lead financial operations and drive organizational performance. Key responsibilities include ensuring financial integrity, operational excellence, and long‑term fiscal health.
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer / Chief Executive Officer.
Supervises: Accounting Staff.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and operational excellence.
Oversee all accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, and job costing.
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Coordinate and manage budgeting and forecasting processes.
Partner with leadership to monitor job profitability and project performance.
Maintain general ledger integrity and chart of accounts.
Manage cash flow and banking relationships to ensure financial stability.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Oversee tax preparation, audits, and external financial reviews.
Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, controls, and reporting accuracy.
Provide strategic insights to support decision‑making and long‑term planning.
Education & Certifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
CPA designation preferred.
Advanced proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
Experience
Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 3 years in a leadership role.
Experience in construction or contracting industry required.
Strong background in job costing, project accounting, and performance analysis.
Core Competencies
In‑depth understanding of GAAP, compliance, and financial best practices.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a focus on results.
Proven ability to lead and motivate high‑performing teams.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments.
High attention to detail with strategic business acumen.
Demonstrated ability to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
Physical & Work Environment
Office‑based, professional environment with occasional visits to job sites.
Sedentary work with minimal physical exertion (up to 10 lbs).
Must be able to operate standard office equipment and drive a vehicle.
Standard 8–12 hour work shifts depending on business needs.
