Structural Engineer – Heavy Industrial Location: Lakeland, FL We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our growing team in the Lakeland, FL area. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to challenging and rewarding projects within the heavy industrial sector, particularly supporting phosphate, fertilizer, and other large-scale industrial facilities. In this role, you will perform a variety of structural engineering tasks, from analysis and design through field inspections and client interactions. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a multidiscipline environment while managing multiple projects at once. Responsibilities

Perform structural analyses using hand calculations and computer-aided tools (STAAD, RISA-3D, etc.). Develop and interpret finite element models; incorporate results into calculations and technical documentation. Prepare designs and calculations for steel structures, concrete systems, and heavy foundations. Direct and coordinate with designers to translate concepts into drawings and construction documents. Review vendor submittals, technical reports, and project documentation. Provide front-end-loading (FEL) studies, material takeoffs, and construction cost estimate support. Participate in construction administration (shop drawing reviews, RFIs, field observations). Serve as engineer-of-record or structural discipline lead when required. Support business development efforts, including proposal input and client communications. Gather field data, conduct inspections, and maintain client-facing relationships throughout projects.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Professional Engineer (PE) license highly preferred; candidates without PE must be able to obtain within 6–12 months. 6+ years of experience in structural design for heavy industrial facilities. Strong technical knowledge of steel, concrete, and deep/shallow foundation design. Proficiency with finite element modeling; familiarity with dynamic, modal, and time history analyses. In-depth knowledge of relevant codes and standards for structural engineering. Proficiency with STAAD, RISA-3D, AutoCAD; Revit experience is a plus. Ability to work independently with limited project information and develop design assumptions. Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across mechanical, electrical, process, and piping disciplines.
