Remote (US) Overview
The Workday US Payroll Lead will operate as a lead-level consultant on a Workday implementation, typically driving the Payroll workstream. This role is expected to function independently, owning Payroll design, configuration, and guidance to the customer. The ideal consultant brings deep US payroll expertise, regulatory knowledge, and hands?on Workday build experience. Key Responsibilities Lead the Workday US Payroll workstream for an in-flight implementation. Configure Workday Payroll, including calculations, earnings, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and payroll accounting. Advise on compliance topics such as tax, garnishments, Common Pay Master, unemployment, and regulatory reporting. Support union / collective bargaining agreement requirements, retirement benefits (401k, etc.), and payroll processing cycles. Facilitate working sessions, gather and validate requirements, and translate them into scalable configuration. Drive testing (unit, parallel, UAT) and troubleshoot payroll defects. Provide best?practice guidance and payroll readiness recommendations to customer stakeholders. Communicate progress, risks, and decision points to project leadership.
Qualifications
Hands?on experience configuring and supporting Workday US Payroll in an implementation or post?production environment. Strong knowledge of US payroll regulatory requirements (tax, garnishments, wage attachments, Common Pay Master, etc.). Experience with payroll accounting, period close, and reconciliation. Experience supporting retirement benefits setup (401k, etc.). Background working with union / CBA requirements is strongly preferred. Able to operate as a workstream lead with minimal oversight. Strong communication skills and ability to interface with both business and technical stakeholders. Recent Workday deployment experience using Launch / Launch Express or similar methodology (preferred).
