Generational Wealth Educators (GWE) is seeking a
financially savvy and mission-driven volunteer
to serve as
Board Treasurer . This executive officer role provides
fiscal oversight and financial leadership
at the governance level, ensuring transparency, compliance, and sustainability as GWE empowers low-income and underserved communities through financial education, wellness, and homeownership. The Treasurer works closely with the Executive Director and financial partners to ensure that the board is well-informed and that all financial activity aligns with nonprofit best practices and GWE’s long-term goals. Key Responsibilities Oversee the
development and review of financial policies
and ensure board adoption when necessary Assist with the
annual budgeting process
and present the draft budget for board review and approval Ensure the board receives timely and accurate
monthly or quarterly financial statements Alert the board to
significant budget discrepancies , cash flow issues, or financial risks Ensure GWE maintains
accurate, compliant financial records
and filings (e.g., IRS, payroll, grants) Serve as a
co-signer on checks
and financial authorizations as designated in the bylaws Oversee proper handling of
donations, reserves, and grant reporting Meet annually (or as needed) with the
external auditor or financial reviewer
and ensure follow-up on any findings Collaborate on the
Annual Report
and
present the Treasurer’s Report
at the Annual Meeting Support the board in understanding key financial trends, performance, and decisions Recommend changes to auditors or financial service providers when appropriate Ideal Candidate Background in finance, accounting, nonprofit management, or business Understanding of
nonprofit financial reporting
and compliance (or willingness to learn) Experience reviewing or managing
budgets, audits, or financial policies Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets) High attention to detail and
commitment to integrity and accountability Ability to communicate financial matters clearly to non-financial audiences Passion for
