Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable MDS Coordinator to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and improving the quality of patient care. This position requires a strong understanding of clinical documentation, coding, and care management processes. The MDS Coordinator will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to facilitate optimal patient outcomes and ensure accurate medical records.
Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive assessments using the Minimum Data Set (MDS) to evaluate patient needs and care plans.
Collaborate with nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to gather necessary clinical information for documentation.
Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and other regulatory guidelines related to MDS submissions.
Review medical records for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to coding standards (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10).
Participate in utilization review processes to assess the appropriateness of patient admissions and continued stay criteria.
Provide education and training to staff on MDS processes, documentation requirements, and coding practices.
Monitor quality indicators and implement strategies for clinical documentation improvement.
Assist in discharge planning processes to ensure continuity of care for patients transitioning from inpatient settings.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare regulations, NCQA standards, and best practices in case management.
Experience The ideal candidate will possess:
Experience in managed care settings or acute care environments such as hospitals or nursing homes.
Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks.
A background in critical care or emergency medicine is highly desirable.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, HIPAA regulations, and health information management principles.
Previous experience in clinical documentation review and utilization management is preferred.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
