Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities

Fairmont State University is seeking a Business Manager to provide strategic leadership and oversight for the financial and administrative functions of the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). This position plays a key role in ensuring fiscal accountability, compliance, and effective management of all sponsored projects across the University.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of grant and contract administration, and the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to advance Fairmont State's research and sponsored program goals.

Note: This position is in the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), which is the central clearinghouse for all sponsored awards at Fairmont State. The position responsibilities listed below apply to all University sponsored awards, regardless of the department or division receiving grant funding.

Duties and Responsibilities: Strategically manage the daily financial activities of OSP, which include business planning and management, budget report reviews, and grant purchasing/reconciling. Oversee grant, contract, and sub-contract budget development, budget management/monitoring, purchasing, facility maintenance and/or programming, and day-to-day operational assignments and tasks. Serve as a liaison to grant Principal Investigators while managing and overseeing the activity of multi-million-dollar grant budgets across campus. Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations. Cooperate with the Office of Finance to coordinate, design, and implement various procedures and processes including internal financial reporting systems, financial controls, budget requests, and formal budget revisions. Maintain and manage academic and financial records such as confidential employment files, travel records, and Purchasing (P-Card) documentation in Banner, PeopleAdmin, and wvOASIS, as required. Assist OSP with auditing and accounting matters and aid in developing and implementing changes if needed. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Required Education

Bachelor's degree in business administration, business management, finance, accounting or other related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related work experience required. Master's degree in business or related administrative or management field preferred. Education may be substituted for years of experience.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to further develop skills and competencies in assigned University and College systems such as Banner, PeopleAdmin and/or wvOASIS. Knowledge of budgeting and financial management skills. Strong written and oral communication skills as well as tact and diplomacy. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment. Must be adaptable, flexible, and have a tolerance for change and working in a fast-paced environment. Integrity and confidentiality required. Preferred Qualifications

Five years of experience working in a complex organization, preferably in institutions of higher education. Ability to work independently analyzing situations and problems and developing and implementing solutions. Knowledge of state policies and procedures for universities.
