Key Responsibilities
Fleet Operations & Logistics Management • Plans, coordinates, and executes the movement of vehicles and equipment between locations, job sites, and new acquisitions. Oversees equipment deliveries, redeployments, and disposals to ensure timely and cost-effective logistics. • Leads the make-ready process for all new and transferred assets — ensuring inspections, decals, GPS installation, fuel cards, and documentation are complete before field deployment. • Manages national fuel programs and card systems; tracks consumption, identifies inefficiencies, and enforces fuel policy compliance. Partners with Fleet Operations and Finance to control cost per mile/hour and reduce waste. • Administers fleet GPS/telematics platforms (e.g., Geotab) including device installation, activation, reporting accuracy, and user access. Develop dashboards and utilization reports that improve asset tracking, idle-time reduction, and driver accountability. • Schedules internal and external hauling, optimizes routing, and manages transport vendors to ensure on-time delivery and retrieval of equipment. Balances internal hauling capabilities versus outsourced transport for best cost and service outcome. • Coordinates the retrieval, inspection, and preparation of assets slated for sale or transfer. Ensures all documentation, GPS removal, and fuel account closures are completed accurately. • Assists in onboarding new business units by aligning logistics, fuel, and GPS processes with PowerGrid standards and supporting rapid asset integration. • Enforces DOT, FMCSA, and PowerGrid policies governing asset transport, inspection, and operator readiness. Ensures all equipment moves meet regulatory and internal safety standards. • Works closely with Operations, Fleet Managers, and Shop Managers to plan upcoming project needs, coordinate backfill deliveries and ensure readiness of all field assets. • Maintains up-to-date logistics, fuel, and telematics data in Acumatica and related systems. Provides regular reports on fleet readiness, movement costs, and compliance performance.
Leadership & Supervision • Provide clear leadership, direction, and support to the fleet teams. • Promote a positive, value-driven work environment that reflects PowerGrid Services’ culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability. • Conduct regular check-ins and coaching sessions with fleet and operations to reinforce best practices, compliance, and customer service standards. • Support the entire fleet support team, training, and professional development of staff. Cross-Functional Collaboration • Work collaboratively with departments including Sourcing, Development, Operations, and Programs & Services to ensure efficient and customer-oriented fleet operations. • Serve as a liaison between internal teams and community partners to facilitate effective communication and relationship management. • Coordinate with other departments to plan routes and schedules that meet operational priorities and community needs.
Systems, Technology, and Equipment • Maintain working knowledge of all relevant planning tools, iPad applications, and computer systems used for logistics management. • Ensure drivers are properly trained in securement techniques, loading and unloading procedures, and safe operation of transportation equipment. • Monitor technology and tracking systems for performance, accuracy, and compliance with company standards.
Reporting & Metrics • Prepare and deliver reports on fleet performance, route efficiency, safety compliance, and other logistics metrics as requested by the Director of Sourcing, Logistics & Sustainability. • Analyze trends and data to identify areas for operational improvement and cost reduction.
Other Duties • Participate in meetings, training, and strategic planning sessions as required. • Perform additional duties and special projects assigned to support company goals and initiatives.
Qualifications Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management, logistics operations, or transportation management (with at least 2 years in a leadership role). • Proven experience managing dispatch operations, driving teams, and fleet safety programs.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to coach and motivate staff. • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written. • In-depth knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and other applicable transportation safety regulations. • Proficiency with logistics software, GPS tracking systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word). • Strong problem-solving abilities with a focus on efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction. • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
