Once the procedure is completed, the technologist is responsible for caring for instrumentation and equipment and preparing for the next case. This position provides assistance to expedite room turnover, ensuring optimum customer service to surgeons, patients, anesthesiologists, and co-workers. Nature and Scope This position serves a diverse patient population, including Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric, Trauma, and Cardiac patients. The role requires technical skills as a member of the surgical team, communicating effectively with supervisors, surgical staff, surgeons, and anesthesiologists. The technologist has the authority to decide on the necessary equipment and supplies based on surgeon preference cards and knowledge of the procedure, and to identify and address any breakdowns in aseptic technique. The position ensures all equipment is functioning properly before surgery, maintains and cares for equipment after procedures, and reports any malfunctions or broken equipment. Potential hazards in the healthcare environment include radiation, toxic chemicals, biological hazards, heat, noise, dust, and stress. Renown Health has a Safety Management Program to address these issues. This role requires the ability to scrub all procedures in the Trauma OR, including second scrub for Open Heart Services.
