Patient Care Assistant – Surg. ICU Staff (BWH)
Job Summary:
A $750.00 sign-on bonus is being offered to eligible new employees hired in our PCA positions. Working under the direction of licensed personnel, assists patients with activities of daily living tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating. Also assists with taking patients' temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration.
Essential Functions
Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs with accuracy and within established time frame and/or as requested.
Completes all documentation in the medical record as required.
Interacts with patients and their families effectively.
Helps patients with a number of basic hygiene tasks, including bathing, dressing, toilet assistance, and feeding.
Assists with turning and repositioning patients in bed or moving between bed and wheelchair.
Listens to any health concerns patients may have and reports those concerns to the nurses.
Qualifications Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred. (No experience for degree.)
Licenses and Credentials:
Basic Life Support (BLS); Certified Medical Assistant (National); Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (Massachusetts); Nursing Assistant (LNA – New Hampshire).
Experience:
Experience working in patient care/elder care 1‑2 years preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Strong patient/customer service skills.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Proficient computer skills to work efficiently with electronic medical records.
