Senior Payroll Specialist
We’re seeking a detail‑oriented and proactive
Senior Payroll Specialist
to coordinate all aspects of our clients' payroll function. This individual will ensure accurate payroll records, maintain compliance with statutory requirements, and manage company pension information. The ideal candidate will be passionate about accuracy, compliance, and excellent customer service, with the ability to collaborate effectively across HR and Finance teams.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain all payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data, including exemptions, insurance coverage, deductions, and job title or departmental transfers.
Compile and deliver timely, accurate payroll reports on earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, overtime, vacation, holiday pay, and non‑taxable wages.
Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies promptly; ensure policies and procedures are followed and updated.
Process payroll changes, payroll change notices, and general ledger transactions; complete monthly account reconciliations.
Set up and process 401(k) plans; maintain accurate 401(k) records and biweekly provider reporting.
Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to maintain strong partnerships.
Support other finance areas as needed (sales tax, accounts payable, benefit plan audits, budget preparation, month‑end activities, etc.).
Drive development and implementation of payroll systems; verify third‑party payments.
Achieve high levels of payroll accuracy while protecting confidential information.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent work experience.
3+ years of payroll processing experience.
Strong numerical, statistical, and analytical abilities.
Excellent data interpretation and reporting skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll systems.
Ability to categorize, classify, and maintain detailed records.
Strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
Multi‑state payroll and tax administration and legislation knowledge.
Document and file system management proficiency.
