Job Overview
Maryland Transit Administration (MTA)
– Bus OCC Control Room Controller (DOT Non‑Exempt IV) – 7465. The primary responsibility of this position is to monitor, direct, and coordinate control center functions to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient transit operations.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and control the service control board, service and route alignment, and radio communications/dispatching of operators.
Notify management of operational issues such as service disruptions caused by serious accidents or major equipment loss.
Enter data accurately on all control room forms and maintain communication with radio and telephone channels.
Provide hyper‑alert notifications to management when Communications Specialists are unavailable.
Work one of three 24‑hour shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required.
Education and Experience
High‑school diploma or high‑school equivalency certificate (required).
Five (5) years of experience in a transit system and/or transportation operation.
At least three (3) of those years must be within a bus environment.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Business Administration, Management, or related field may be substituted for experience (up to two years). U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staffing of rules, regulations, policies, or unit operations may also substitute for required education and experience.
Special Requirements
24‑hour call‑in availability and reliable communication link for emergency call‑back.
Availability to travel within the MTA service area.
Substance abuse testing in accordance with federal regulations.
Valid Maryland motor vehicle operator’s license required if duties involve operating a vehicle.
