Base pay range
$120,000.00/yr - $170,000.00/yr
Position Summary The Superintendent is responsible for the on‑site coordination of all phases of construction projects. This role includes coordinating subcontractors, materials, and equipment, ensuring safety requirements and project specifications are strictly followed, and maintaining the project schedule and budget.
Essential Functions
Lead and promote a strong safety culture by demonstrating commitment to an injury‑free environment through actions and communication. Investigate safety incidents and retrain staff as needed.
Understand and apply the terms and conditions of owner and subcontractor contracts for the project.
Manage subcontractors and overall job workflow by tracking timelines, following up, and adjusting as necessary to keep on schedule.
Oversee project staff, subcontractors, suppliers, and compliance with safety, quality, and equal employment programs.
Participate in buyout meetings with subcontractors and vendors.
Develop work plans for subcontractors and self‑performed work.
Coordinate and manage the care, custody, and control of the project site.
Lead daily stand‑up and weekly trade meetings.
Attend and participate in project progress and owner/architect/contractor meetings.
Collaborate with the project team to develop and update project schedules. If schedule delays occur, develop recovery plans to realign activities and resources.
Create 4‑6 week look‑ahead schedules based on the master schedule, identifying critical items and coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers for upcoming work.
Participate in negotiations with owners and architects regarding project changes.
Communicate key project information to owners, design teams, governing authorities, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Maintain accurate project documentation including drawings, daily logs, photos, and inspection reports.
Prepare daily and weekly reports, logs, and tracking documentation.
Manage project material and equipment needs.
Review and approve timecards to ensure accurate reporting of hours and cost codes.
Assist project management with labor requests and forecasting labor needs.
Ensure quality compliance through adherence to specifications, standards, and QA/QC procedures.
Support project closeout activities, including punch list completion and coordination with owners and governing authorities.
Contribute to staffing planning and performance review discussions for field teams.
Participate in project review meetings and monthly progress reviews.
Other Tasks
Participate in performance reviews of Assistant Superintendents, Carpenters, and field employees.
Manage assigned projects through the warranty period.
Skill, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements
OSHA 30 Certified; First Aid and CPR Certified.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to conduct effective presentations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management software (e.g., Procore), and scheduling software.
Solid understanding of construction processes and how each phase contributes to project success.
Ability to build strong relationships with team members and stakeholders.
Intermediate knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work.
Competence in managing budgets, maximizing profitability, and fostering long‑term client relationships.
Working knowledge of layout and surveying practices.
Ability to interpret document changes and assess schedule impacts.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
5+ years of construction experience.
5+ years of field supervision experience.
Demonstrated success leading medium‑scale or complex commercial construction projects.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with architects, owners, and vendors.
Strong scheduling and safety management experience.
Ability to identify potential project issues early and implement effective resolutions.
Physical Requirements
Regular, punctual, and consistent on‑site attendance.
Occasional travel may be required.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external contacts.
Capability to navigate entire job sites, including stairs and elevated structures.
Frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, lifting, and use of hands.
Ability to work in varying temperature extremes (0‑100 °F) and in conditions with dust, fumes, or confined spaces.
Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and other jobsite hazards.
Use of appropriate personal protective equipment including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel‑toed shoes; additional PPE as needed (gloves, harnesses, masks, hearing protection).
