Transit Facilities Maintenance Chief
Job Summary The Transit Facilities Division maintains all Metro Transit properties, including bus bases, park & rides, bus shelters, and offices and maintenance shops. The Transit Facilities Maintenance Chief is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities, supervising skilled trades and maintenance workers, and providing policy direction and customer‑service leadership across the division.
Responsibilities
Develop short‑ and long‑term work plans, assign work, and administer union labor contracts.
Coach and manage staff, conduct performance evaluations, and address employee investigations and grievances.
Participate in budget development, monitor budgets, and enforce quality standards through inspections.
Utilize a computerized maintenance management system to track and document all maintenance activities.
Coordinate and advise safety and security committees, addressing safety and emergency response needs.
Identify and participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
Act as Superintendent when assigned and perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of facilities maintenance experience in an industrial or transit setting, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
Ability to work in a diverse team environment and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of maintenance planning, scheduling, and competing priorities.
Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office and computerized work order systems (e.g., EAM).
Valid Washington State driver license with an acceptable driving record.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience supervising a high‑talent employee group and building trust within a diverse team.
Knowledge of building trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and rail‑maintenance specialties.
Understanding of energy control, fire/life safety, security, and environmental building control systems.
Familiarity with county, state, and federal codes applicable to transit properties.
Experience with labor relations, negotiation, and grievance processes.

Union Status : Professional & Technical Employees (PROTEC), Local 17
Work Location : North, Central, and South Facilities Maintenance facilities; other locations within the Metro Transit service area.
Schedule : Full time, 40 hours/week. Rotating day, swing, overnight, weekends, holidays, and on‑call duties.
