Job Summary The Marine Technical Sales Engineer bridges technical expertise and customer solutions in the shipbuilding and maritime industries. The position combines marine engineering, naval architecture, and shipboard systems knowledge with communication and project management skills to support shipyards, design firms, and vessel operators. Ideal candidates have a maritime academy or naval architecture background, shipboard experience, and the ability to apply engineering knowledge to commercial and project-support settings.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Develop technical documentation, specifications, and proposals for shipbuilding and retrofit programs.
Collaborate with naval architects, marine engineers, and shipyard project teams to ensure accurate product selection and regulatory compliance.
Provide technical presentations, system training, and application guidance to engineering teams and operators.
Create case studies, schematics, and technical literature demonstrating marine system applications.
Support trade shows, dockside demonstrations, and shipyard visits to showcase engineered product solutions.
Project Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Lead assigned projects related to newbuild and retrofit systems, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.
Develop material takeoffs, cost analyses, and performance comparisons for lifecycle optimization.
Work with internal marketing and sales teams to create marine-specific tools and training modules.
Provide field feedback from ship checks, commissioning, and service calls for continuous improvement.
Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of shipboard systems.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and system schematics, and to analyze product manuals, data sheets, and technical specifications to support accurate product selection and application engineering.
Familiarity with AutoCAD and 3D ship design software (such as ShipConstructor, Cadmatic, Aveva Marine, Navisworks) used for reviewing layouts, pipe routing models, and equipment arrangements in shipbuilding and retrofit projects preferred.
Excellent communication; capable of interfacing with engineers, naval architects, shipyards, and procurement teams.
Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple technical projects.
Proficiency in Microsoft 365 platform and collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, Excel).
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 for customer relationship and project tracking.
Working knowledge of Power BI for data visualization and reporting.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Mechanical Engineering or relevant experience.
Maritime academy graduate preferred.
3–7 years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or vessel operations.
Sailing or shipboard experience strongly preferred.
Strong customer orientation and interpersonal skills. Sales experience.
Willingness to travel up to 50% for customer visits, OEM training and meetings, trade shows, and industry events.
TWIC Card or ability to obtain.
Must pass company background and drug screening.
Preferred Experience
Hands‑on experience with valve automation, piping, and engineered marine systems.
Experience in shipyard operations, drydocking, or vessel commissioning.
Familiarity with CRM/ERP systems.
Experience in technical support, product selection, or application engineering within the maritime industry.
