Teacher - Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing, Gr. K-12 (SY25-26) The Horace Mann School (HMS) is a PreK-12 American Sign Language (ASL) and English dual‑language school dedicated to providing an asset‑driven education for deaf and hard‑of‑hearing children. Our language‑rich, innovative environment fosters learning through immersion in a community of strong language models, enabling students to develop fluency in both ASL and English.

Candidates must be proficient in American Sign Language and have a deep understanding of Deaf Culture. For teaching positions, an English as a Second Language (ESL) license at the appropriate level is highly preferred. A Bilingual Education Endorsement (BEE) is required for a content‑area teaching position.

Responsibilities Teach: Special Education of the Deaf and Hard‑of‑Hearing.

Professional Reflection & Collaboration: Reflects on practice, seeks and responds to feedback, demonstrates continuous learning, participates in collaborative adult learning communities.

Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree.

State License: Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Deaf and Hard‑of‑Hearing (All Levels).

Meet state and federal licensing requirements and be Highly Qualified according to NCLB.

Current authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Experience

Teaching in urban schools.

Bilingual proficiency in one of the district’s official languages (Spanish, Creole, Haitian Creole, Chinese, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Somali).

Certification in Moderate Disabilities or English as a Second Language at the appropriate grade level(s).
