Summary
The Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant (PA) - manages the care of patients in the Thoracic Surgery and Pulmonary Transplant Specialties - emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) mission
Duties
The PA provides comprehensive assessment - diagnosis - education and medication management for patients in both surgical and non-surgical management pathways
This position may include inpatient and outpatient care
it may also include completion of virtual/Econsults in collaboration with Thoracic Surgery/Pulmonary Transplant staff
Other duties may also be assigned to assist the facility as determined by the Specialty Section Chief and/or Administrative Supervisor
The PA works collaboratively across surgery - medicine - nursing - and other professional service lines
Duties include but not limited to: Provides comprehensive assessment - diagnosis - education and medication management for patients in both surgical and non surgical management pathways
Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practice
Develops and implements an individualized plan to achieve optimal population health and disease management
Orders and interprets labs - tests - and diagnostic studies
Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
Initiates referrals and consults to specialty services
Preferred Experience: 1-2 years of APP experience in Pulmonology or a related field 2-3 years of experience as an APP in any field VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package
