ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Watertown, MA office is looking for an entry-level Water Resources Engineer/Scientist with 0-1 years of experience to work with our existing water resource group and support our work in the areas of stormwater regulatory compliance work, stormwater policy and guidance development, among others.
Work would begin in the summer/fall 2026 and consist of a hybrid work setting.
Responsibilities
Provide support for stormwater regulatory compliance programs for state and local government clients
Perform field investigations including, but not limited to, stormwater system inspections, construction site inspections, stormwater system mapping, and water quality sampling
Develop data management tools in ArcGIS, including ArcGIS Online
Collect, analyze, and interpret data to support water quality studies and plans
Perform analysis of spatial data using GIS technology (e.g., buffering, spatial overlays, distance calculations)
Develop innovative approaches for internal and client workflows
Prepare technical reports, graphics, and guidance documents
Support the development of federal, state, and local permit applications
Support stormwater program funding approaches, including preparing grant applications and developing stormwater enterprise funds
Skills and Abilities
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Highly motivated
Ability to solve problems and think creatively
Detail-oriented and highly organized
Ability to think critically
Team oriented
Strong computer skills with experience with ArcGIS desired
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R, or Arcade, a plus
Familiarity with regulations associated with water quality and stormwater discharges desired
Qualifications
0-1 years of civil/ environmental engineering experience
BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environment Science or related field
MS strongly desired
Ability to perform field work and travel to project sites
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position is $80,000-83,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
