Overview We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Automation Engineer to join the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) team in Washington, D.C. The selected candidate will lead efforts to automate IT infrastructure provisioning, optimize processes, and enhance system efficiency across hybrid cloud environments. This role requires hands‑on experience in managing the full system development lifecycle (SDLC), strong leadership in project delivery, and expertise in implementing automation solutions using industry‑standard tools and methodologies. The position is hybrid and will require regular on‑site presence at the OCIO office.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the implementation of Commercial off‑the‑Shelf (COTS) IT infrastructure automation solutions.
Ensure automation solutions align with business requirements and deliver measurable value.
Coordinate with vendors to achieve seamless integration and ensure project goals are met.
Oversee the full SDLC, including planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
Build and manage one‑click, self‑service infrastructure and data provisioning/decommissioning solutions and dashboards.
Develop and maintain detailed project plans, resource allocations, and Agile sprint schedules.
Lead hybrid cloud automation projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Apply Agile or hybrid methodologies to manage scope, deliverables, and timelines effectively.
Coordinate cross‑functional teams to ensure project milestones are achieved on time.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define objectives and maintain transparent communication.
Conduct sprint planning sessions, retrospectives, and regular project updates to ensure stakeholder alignment.
Develop effective communication plans to ensure collaboration across distributed teams.
Maintain thorough documentation of project activities, key decisions, risks, and technical issues.
Identify and proactively manage risks and technical challenges.
Utilize automation tools (e.g., Microsoft Power Automate) to minimize manual tasks and enhance system reliability.
Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary technical team, including engineering, quality assurance, and infrastructure specialists.
Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and innovation.
Ensure compliance with governance frameworks and standards, including Capability Maturity Model (CMM) Level 3.
Manage regulatory compliance and risk mitigation initiatives across critical infrastructure projects.
Implement process automation and workflow optimization to drive operational efficiency and cost savings.
Stay abreast of emerging technologies and best practices, incorporating relevant innovations into automation strategies.
Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of experience managing the full SDLC from inception through deployment and maintenance.
Minimum 8 years of experience leading large‑scale infrastructure or automation projects.
Minimum 8 years of experience in Agile or hybrid methodologies for project execution.
Proven ability to work independently and manage complex initiatives with minimal supervision.
Strong background in automation tools, hybrid cloud environments, and infrastructure management.
Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
Education and Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or equivalent experience.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification required.
Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM) certification required.
Additional certifications in project or cloud automation methodologies preferred.
