Position: Supervisory Border Patrol Agent (Supervisory Assistant Chief) Agency: U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security, Washington, D.C. Supervise USBP Headquarters Border Patrol Agents and professional staff; act as senior technical advisor and develop, implement, evaluate policies, programs, and operations. Lead mission‑specific projects including enforcement operations, intelligence collection, administrative and logistical support, training programs, and dissemination of mission‑specific information. Coordinate with DHS operations, management, and program offices; liaison with federal, state, local, and foreign law enforcement agencies to gather time‑sensitive information. Supervise assigned personnel, set priorities, assign work, prepare performance standards and appraisals, and recommend disciplinary actions. Provide administrative and policy direction for overall project priorities and objectives, including budgetary justification for headquarters initiatives. Qualifications
You qualify for GS‑14 if you possess at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing technical and administrative direction and oversight for all Border Patrol functions within an assigned area. Supervising, managing, or directing operational programs and their support functions. Directing local policy and program initiatives. Developing, managing, or directing operational policy or programs related to Border Patrol operations. Individual Occupational Requirement: Specialized Experience in law enforcement or other responsible work that demonstrates the ability to make arrests, exercise sound judgment in firearms use, interact courteously with individuals, analyze information rapidly, and maintain a network of informants. Secondary Law Enforcement Officer Special Retirement Coverage applies. Language Requirement: Proficiency in Spanish (speaking and reading). Firearms Requirement: Must meet initial and continuing qualifications in firearms as outlined in the Gun Control Act. Medical Requirements: Must be medically and physically capable of performing essential job functions safely and efficiently. Conditions of Employment
Must be a U.S. citizen. Must be a U.S. resident for at least three of the last five years. Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959. Must pass background investigation and/or polygraph. Must meet job‑related medical and fitness standards. Temporary/rotational assignment: Filled on a temporary basis not‑to‑exceed (NTE) 5 years. May be returned to former position or to a similar position if temporarily promoted. Mobility Agreement: Position is subject to a Mobility Agreement.
