Overview : The Theatre Director will lead an academic theatre production, collaborating with theatre faculty to select a play or musical for the season. The role includes overseeing casting, rehearsal, design, and production run, and coordinating with the College's support staff. Adjunct faculty are expected to provide instruction, manage grading and materials, attend department meetings and professional development, and maintain program accreditation. Pay is $1,085 per credit hour (Adjunct Level 1). Campus locations include Catonsville and Essex.

Responsibilities

Conceive and communicate an artistic concept for the production.

Collaborate with the production team to coordinate all artistic aspects and maintain unity.

Report to the Discipline Coordinator and Department Chair for artistic quality and academic integrity.

Present at all audition times and callback sessions.

Cast the production in coordination with theatre faculty and staff.

Attend weekly production meetings to coordinate props, sound cues, special effects, costumes, scenery, and publicity.

Meet all design approval deadlines for scenery, lighting, costumes, props, and program materials.

Supervise the stage manager and ensure fulfillment of responsibilities.

Coordinate rehearsal time and space with the Office of Performing Arts.

Assist in posting publicity photos.

Meet with the musical director, conductor, and choreographer to ensure musical continuity (for musical productions).

Research production to ensure historical accuracy.

Conduct all rehearsals professionally and efficiently.

Maintain positive company morale and set a professional example for students.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Dance, or Performing Arts.

At least two years of directing or choreography experience, preferably in collegiate settings.

Strong communication and organizational skills.

Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications.

Prior college teaching experience preferred.
