Superior Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing, Inc. is a statewide provider of skilled trade services. We are seeking an experienced Level 2 Generator Technician to join our Southern California division.
Work schedules are Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday, with occasional travel shifts. The position includes a two-week training period and annual performance reviews. Technicians are issued company vehicles and may begin their service routes from their home address or a designated location.
Scope of Work
Demonstrate knowledge and experience with CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, or Detroit Diesel generator systems
Visually inspect and diagnose issues with natural gas and/or gasoline-powered standby commercial generators
Use multimeters, oscilloscopes, and diagnostic software to identify issues
Repair or replace faulty components: sensors, alternators, ignition systems, regulators, and etcetera
Adjust carburetors, ignition timing, and governor systems for optimal performance
Respond to emergency service calls for breakdowns or no-start conditions
Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, coolant changes, filter replacements, battery replacements, and servicing of belts, spark plugs, and other mechanical components
Calibrate and test generator control panels, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and voltage regulators
Program PLC or microprocessor-based controls when applicable
Verify remote monitoring systems and alarms function correctly
Ensure all work complies with EPA emissions, OSHA, and NFPA standards
Follow lockout/tagout and confined‑space procedures
Handle compressed natural gas systems safely and in accordance with regulations
Educate end users on proper generator operation and basic maintenance procedures
Provide service and repair recommendations to maintain equipment in optimal working condition
Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams
Operate a company vehicle and complete fleet maintenance reports as required
Maintain accurate records of all inspections, maintenance, and repair work performed
Communicate effectively with management, team members, and clients to ensure clear understanding of service needs and solutions
Requirements
Minimum of three years of recent experience performing commercial generator maintenance
Basic understanding of NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and general electrical safety practices
Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug test and motor vehicle background check
Proficient English communication skills, both written and verbal, for preparing reports and emails
Must possess personal hand tools required to perform mechanical work and voltage testing
Willingness to commute to various job sites using company vehicles within Orange County, Los Angeles County, and/or the Inland Empire
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
