POSITION OVERVIEW:

LSI is seeking a highly skilled and experienced

AV Systems Engineer / Sr Tech

to design, implement, optimize, and maintain cutting-edge Audio Visual (AV) and Video Teleconferencing (VTC) solutions, primarily within the Department of Defense (DoD) environment. This pivotal role requires a unique blend of advanced engineering expertise for system design and architecture, combined with hands-on leadership in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of complex AV/VTC systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for translating client requirements into actionable designs, leading project installations, ensuring robust system performance, and maintaining strict adherence to DoD security standards.

Key Responsibilities AV/VTC System Design & Architecture:

Conduct comprehensive

site surveys

to gather requirements, assess existing infrastructure, and identify environmental constraints. Design and architect integrated AV/VTC solutions, including projectors, displays, lighting, microphones, sound systems, video conferencing equipment, and sophisticated control systems (Crestron, AMX, Extron). Develop detailed

system diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams , and bill of materials (BOMs) to meet specific customer requirements and industry best practices. Create project-based

cost estimates

for labor, travel, and materials required to deliver proposed solutions.

Implementation & Installation Leadership:

Lead and direct installation crews (internal or subcontracted) on large and complex AV/VTC projects. Oversee and actively participate in installation tasks including, but not limited to, cable pulls (audio, video, control, network, fiber), cable terminations, equipment mounting, rack fabrication, and wire management. Ensure all installations adhere to design specifications, quality standards, safety protocols, and project timelines.

System Configuration & Optimization:

Configure and program AV/VTC equipment for optimal performance and user experience. Manage VTC hardware and software components, including codecs, endpoints, telepresence units, gatekeepers, and MCU (Multipoint Control Unit) systems. Monitor and optimize VTC system performance, including troubleshooting issues, managing network bandwidth, and implementing Quality of Service (QoS) settings.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance:

Conduct thorough system testing upon completion to ensure proper functionality and performance. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and correct complex technical issues on-site and remotely, performing fault isolation, repairs, replacements, and firmware updates. Provide ongoing maintenance, upgrades, and technical support for installed AV/VTC infrastructure.

DoD Security & Compliance:

Ensure that AV/VTC systems comply with DoD cybersecurity policies and standards, including

DISA STIGs

(Security Technical Implementation Guides) and information assurance frameworks like

NIST RMF

(Risk Management Framework). Implement encryption, authentication, and access control measures for secure VTC deployments. Conduct regular security assessments and audits of VTC systems.

Project Management & Documentation:

Coordinate and report project progress to the Project Manager, ensuring projects achieve time, scope, budget, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction requirements. Provide daily, written updates to Project Management. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), security policies, and final

as-built drawings .

Training, Support & Knowledge Sharing:

Test, train, and instruct customers and internal team members on the proper use and operation of AV/VTC equipment and systems. Assist in the proper training and mentorship of other AV technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning. Work with the Service Hub to assist in resolving escalated service calls.

Vendor Relationships & Inventory:

Investigate and resolve open issues with vendor support teams. Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to procure AV/VTC equipment and services. Maintain control over inventory in LSI and technician's possession and ensure proper accounting.

Qualification Requirements

Active Secret Clearance (Required). Experience:

Minimum of

10 years of progressive experience

in AV/Low Voltage (LV) installation, design, and integration. At least

5 years of extensive experience

specifically designing, implementing, and managing VTC systems in a DoD or related secure environment.

Technical Expertise:

Expertise in video conferencing technologies like SIP, H.323, RTP, SRTP, codecs (e.g., Tandberg, Polycom, Cisco), video compression standards, and networking fundamentals. Deep knowledge of video protocols, control systems ( Crestron, AMX, Extron ), and QoS. Strong understanding of signal flow (audio, video, control), acoustics, and lighting principles. Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction documents, wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints. Hands-on experience with construction methods, electrical wiring, and cable/fiber installation.

Certifications (Preferred):

Crestron Certified Programmer (CCP) or Crestron Certified DigitalMedia Engineer (DMC-E) Extron Control Professional (ECP) or Extron XTP Systems Engineer (XTP-E) Relevant networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+ CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or

CTS-D (Design)

Project Management Skills:

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines within a high-pressure environment. Experience developing cost estimates and managing project scope. Communication & Interpersonal Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, project managers, vendors, and team members at all levels. Ability to provide clear instruction and training. Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field preferred. Relevant professional experience and certifications may be considered in lieu of a degree. Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Work will primarily be performed inside a large facility, potentially in cubicle environments (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting). Work assignments vary based on client requirements. May include working at heights (ladders, lifts) and in small, confined spaces such as under raised floors, inside closets, and server racks. May work in noisy areas with hotter and colder temperatures than standard office environmental conditions. Work may include travel with the military to participate in exercises in austere conditions. (Continental United States) and

OCONUS
