Food Service Worker
Performs food preparation duties relating to the baking and cooking of food in both individual school cafeterias and production kitchens. This recruitment is promotional only. Only current permanent employees in the Classified service of the Glendale Unified School District qualify to apply. Current vacancy: One (1) vacancy (8 hrs./day, 9.25 mos/yr.), with full district-paid benefits, at Theodore Roosevelt Middle School. Examples of duties include: ordering, receiving, storing, and inventorying food stuffs and supplies; cooking from scratch cold entrees, hot entrees, baked goods, and hot meal components; using standardized recipes to prepare meal items; modifying and scaling recipes as needed for meal production; preparing ingredients for recipes by weighing, measuring, counting, portioning, and shaping for various cooking, mixing, and baking processes; participating in serving, selling, collecting, and counting money during meal periods; operating computer, point-of-sale system, inventory management, and accountability programs; completing production records, temperature logs, and various meal accountability forms; organizing ingredients, food stuffs, and finished food items; keeping the manager informed of current inventory and communicating food and supply needs for future orders; operating commercial kitchen equipment such as ovens, ranges, fryers, mixers, grills, slicers, steam jackets, steamers, refrigerators, freezers, etc.; cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment, smallwares, and work areas; and preparing individual meals, which comply with special dietary requirements of students. Minimum requirements include: six months experience in quantity food preparation; possession of a valid California Class C driver's license; ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability; possession of a Food Protection Manager Certificate within the probationary period; and written and oral proficiency in a second language is desirable.
