Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Advantage Program is a TRiO Student Support Services grant funded program dedicated to the holistic support of participants throughout their postsecondary journey. The Academic Counselor provides academic advising, including counseling, to students on personal, career, and academic planning.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Conduct proactive (intrusive) advising services to program participants, assisting with course selection, registration, financial aid, academic counseling, transfer and career planning, and personal issues. Create an academic/graduation plan with each assigned advisee/participant. Regularly monitor and act upon the academic progress of participants; continuously assess students' needs and assist students in accessing resources, such as tutoring assistance. Educate students on financial and economic literacy, including financial planning for postsecondary education. Coordinate career exploration activities collaboratively with campus Career Services office; administer and interpret career assessment tests and provide individualized career planning. Participate in the identification and selection of students for the Student Support Services Program; conduct program intakes. Make referrals and maintain liaisons with other departments, staff, and faculty. Supervise and provide training for the Advantage Peer Mentors. Assist in developing and conducting follow-up studies to track student retention, transfers and career choices, and prepare data for annual report. Maintain and update student confidential records. Participate in the planning and implementation of all matters pertaining to meeting program objectives, including program event planning. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Master's degree in developmental education, education, counseling, student services, or a related field. One to three years of full or equivalent part-time experience providing personal, transfer, academic or career advising. Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills. Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States. ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience advising community college students; prior work experience with TRiO/SSS programs. Experience in the administration and interpretation of assessment and diagnostic instruments such as FOCUS, MBTI, and O*NET Interest Profiler.

Additional Information:

COMPENSATION : Anticipated starting rate of pay is $35.31 per hour (Interval 1). Part-time, 18 hours per week with appointment through August 31, 2025 (extended annually pending funding); Non-benefited, Grant-funded, MCCC Unit Position.
