Role Summary
The
Charge Entry Specialist
will be responsible for processing office-based charges, including diagnostics, procedures, and pathology, with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail. This role supports the claims lifecycle by ensuring proper coding and documentation before submission to certified coders. You'll work within a fast-paced environment using an EMR system and collaborate closely with providers and support staff to resolve documentation gaps.
This is a high-volume role ideal for someone with experience in charge entry and a strong understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding.
Key Responsibilities
Process and scrub office-based charges for diagnostics, procedures, and pathology. Assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes; certification not required but knowledge is essential. Use EMR system (ECW) to manage tasks and documentation. Ensure claims are complete and ready for certified coding review. Maintain a minimum productivity of 40 claims per hour. Communicate with providers and support staff via email to resolve documentation issues. Follow up on outstanding tasks and ensure all claims are closed out accurately. Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient confidentiality. Key Requirements 2-3+ years of experience in charge entry or medical billing. Strong working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding. Ability to process high volumes of claims efficiently and accurately. Excellent written communication and follow-up skills. High school diploma or GED required; degree is a plus. Experience with ECW (electronic medical records) preferred. Gastroenterology-specific experience is a strong advantage.
