Role Summary

The

Hospital Charge Specialist

will be responsible for processing hospital and office medical records, ensuring accurate documentation and charge entry into the EMR system. This role is ideal for someone with experience in charge entry and medical record handling, who thrives in a detail-oriented, fast-paced environment. You'll work closely with hospital portals and internal systems to prepare claims for certified coders.

This is a critical role in the revenue cycle process that requires precision, confidentiality, and strong organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities

Review and process hospital and office medical records for charge entry. Scrub documentation for errors and import into the EMR system. Prepare claims for certified coders by marking them ready for review. Access and manage multiple hospital portals to retrieve necessary documentation. Maintain accurate tracking of hospital charge tickets and scanned documents. Communicate with hospitals, providers, and internal teams to obtain missing information. Meet productivity standards (minimum of 5 claims per hour). Ensure HIPAA compliance and maintain confidentiality of patient data. Key Requirements 1-2+ years of experience in charge entry or medical office operations. Experience processing patient medical records and documentation. Basic knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred. Familiarity with EMR systems; ECW experience is a plus. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office applications. High school diploma or GED required; degree is a plus. Gastroenterology-specific experience is a strong advantage. Strong attention to detail, time management, and communication skills.
