Reporting directly to the Principal, the Social Studies Teacher will be responsible for the overall coordination of teaching in their subject area including executing well-developed lesson plans, accurate assessment of student’s progress, and participation in school functions. The Social Studies Teacher’s responsibility is to plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program and foster a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

Strong subject-matter knowledge in History, Political Science, Government Education, or a related field or any other related discipline in Social Studies.
Demonstrated ability to prepare, plan, create and execute informative and engaging lesson plans for the subject area.
Demonstrated ability to differentiate classroom instruction to accommodate various learners.
Advises, tests, and teaches students in a variety of academic subjects.
Demonstrates proficiency through careful lesson planning and content expertise.
Utilizes a variety of assessment tools to evaluate student learning, including formative and summative assessment.
Collaborates with instructional staff and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, goals, and expectations.
Maintains accurate, up-to-date student records. Actively communicates with students and families.
Demonstrates a willingness to serve the school community with time and talents in activities outside of the classroom.
Develops and maintains a safe and inviting classroom environment conducive to learning.
Enthusiastically engages in professional development activities designed to support professional growth.
Commitment to social justice
Commitment to working with high school students

Qualifications Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in History, Political Science, Government, Education, or a related field, or any other related area; master’s degree and certification preferred (required to be state certified in DC, MD, or VA 3 years from date of hire)
Experience teaching at the high school levels preferred.
Previous teaching experience in related subject preferred.
Demonstrated understanding of effective teaching strategies for different learning styles and aptitudes.
Experience with classroom instruction
Experience and sensitivity to working in a diverse multi-cultural environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
