We are an artisan, small‑batch coffee roaster located just outside of Boston, MA. We sell our roasted‑to‑order coffee both online to consumers worldwide and to cafés, restaurants, and major grocery retailers in the U.S. and Canada. We are a small family‑owned company looking to grow our business across all channels—wholesale, retail cafés, and online.
We are seeking an Operations Manager to manage production for our manufacturing coffee roasting and retail café businesses. You will work closely with the company’s CEO and President and manage a team of 15 production professionals. This is a very hands‑on position, and the right candidate will need to be a leader as well as a daily production contributor.
Critical Skills
Ability to create, implement, follow and enforce processes, policies, and procedures.
Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the fulfillment department to ensure all orders received by 6 am are packed and shipped by end of the same day.
Urgency of the communication may require immediate conversation with the team, such as but not limited to changes to the bag demand, coffees being held by QA/QC, product shortages that impact client orders and safety issues.
Team and team member development.
Regular training and refresher sessions on policies and procedures (documented).
Perform annual employee reviews.
Encourage collaboration, facilitate communication and set clear expectations.
Process internal (GHC cafés) and external (wholesale and DTC) customer orders.
Inventory management.
Responsible for monitoring, ordering and stocking of all products used to ensure customer order fulfillment.
Maintenance.
Establish and maintain a preventative maintenance program for all fulfillment equipment.
Communicate equipment failure or problems, schedule repairs and maintain when needed. Sense of urgency required to mitigate equipment downtime.
Ensure maintenance of safety logs and adherence to all safety programs in compliance with company‑established plans.
Maintain a clean and organized fulfillment warehouse, including receiving dock and employee break area.
Ensure conformance to quality standards, and implement control quality and finished material availability through coordination with the roasting department.
Take part in cost control and budget‑planning activities.
Analyze and report production data.
Forecasting.
Collaborate on staffing needs and workforce planning with the director of operations and human resources.
Stay up‑to‑date on industry trends.
Lead in the implementation of new technology, production methods, and equipment.
Ability to lift 50–75 lbs on a regular basis.
Sense of urgency / ability to switch gears easily when needed.
Main point of contact when the director of operations leaves the roastery.
Requirements
High school diploma; college degree appreciated.
Five plus years leadership and supervisory experience is required.
Basic understanding of coffee and coffee‑related equipment preferred.
Manufacturing process expertise.
Workplace safety program implementation and support.
Microsoft Office programs.
Comprehension, organization, reasoning, communication.
Proactive identification of problems and ability to pivot when needed to address issues.
Leading a diverse team of 15 employees.
Self‑motivated.
