Job Summary Under the direction of the Manager of Health Information Management and Technology, the Electronic Health Records (EHR)/Clinical Application Specialist plays a key role in supporting the implementation, optimization, and ongoing management of EHR systems within El Dorado Community Health Centers. The position is responsible for configuring and customizing EHR systems to align with clinical and operational needs, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and improving system performance. The specialist will collaborate with clinical teams to optimize workflows, provide training and support for staff, and assist in troubleshooting system issues. Additionally, the role involves maintaining system updates, ensuring data integrity, and facilitating the integration of third‑party systems and interfaces. The EHR/Clinical Application Specialist will also support data management, report creation, and mapping efforts while adhering to strict compliance and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
System Implementation and Optimization: Assist in configuring and customizing EHR systems to align with clinical and operational needs; support system testing, troubleshooting, and optimization; design and implement workflows within the EHR system.
Training and Support: Provide training on EHR usage, develop and maintain training materials, and offer ongoing support and troubleshooting for users.
Clinical Workflow Consultation: Collaborate with clinical teams to refine workflows, act as a liaison between departments and vendors, and facilitate cross‑department integration.
System Maintenance and Updates: Stay current with system updates, conduct regular audits for data accuracy and compliance, and monitor performance issues to implement necessary optimizations.
Data Reporting and Management: Assist in report creation within the EHR system, support data mapping and cleanup, and collaborate with teams to generate custom reports.
Problem Solving and Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot issues related to the EHR system, application software, hardware, and computer setups; coordinate with IT teams and vendors to resolve technical issues.
Interfaces and System Integrations: Assist with integration of third‑party systems and applications, support interface troubleshooting and optimization to improve clinical workflows.
User Access Control & Auditing: Manage user access, perform regular audits of access controls to ensure compliance with security policies.
Compliance and Safety: Adhere to federal, state, and local laws and healthcare regulations, including patient confidentiality and safety protocols.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience with EHR software or other healthcare IT applications.
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in Health Information Technology, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
In-depth knowledge of EHR systems, their configuration, and integration with other healthcare applications.
Understanding of clinical workflows, medical terminology, and how EHRs support day‑to‑day operations.
Familiarity with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA and other applicable federal/state requirements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and specialized healthcare software/reporting tools.
Strong technical troubleshooting skills, ability to resolve system issues, and minimize disruption to clinical workflows.
Excellent communication, organization, and time‑management skills; ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple support requests.
Commitment to patient data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
Personal cell phone use required.
Physical Requirements Work in a normal health center/interior office environment: see, hear, talk, walk or move about, sit and/or stand for long periods of time; reach, stoop, bend, lift up to 50 lb.; repetitive hand movement; use and view a computer; read and write English.
