School Nutrition Worker (5.5 hours)

Job Summary
Under supervision, the School Nutrition Worker assists in the preparation, setting up, serving, and selling of school food. The position maintains food service facilities and equipment in neat, clean, safe, and sanitary condition, ensuring an efficient operation of a school cafeteria.
Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation of all food items including main dishes, sandwiches, salads, baked goods, fruits, and vegetables.
Assist in setting up food preparation serving lines.
Assist in cooking, setting up, and serving food items to students and staff.
Prepare school meals that comply with state, federal regulations and the National School Lunch Program.
Maintain the food service facility and equipment in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition.
Operate a variety of kitchen equipment, including ovens, mixers, slicers, steamers, and dishwashers.
Follow all established HACCP guidelines and procedures.
Follow all established safety guidelines and procedures to ensure job safety.
Assist in inventory control of food items and supplies.
Act as a cashier, collecting money, making change, and counting money.
Follow all established state and federal regulations and comply with all established school nutrition and school board policies.
Communicate positively with school nutrition employees, school staff, students, parents, and visitors.
Maintain a positive image of the school nutrition program.
Perform any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or other appropriate administrator.
Minimum Qualifications
Education of at least a high school diploma (preferred).
Must possess basic knowledge of food preparation and food safety and sanitation.
Must complete an approved food safety and sanitation course.
Ability to perform basic cooking functions.
Ability to operate a variety of food service equipment.
Ability to work quickly and efficiently.
Ability to read, write, and understand oral and written directions.
Can work as a team player and work well with others.
Strong work attendance record.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school nutrition staff, other school staff, parents, and the community.

The employee must be able to withstand variable kitchen temperatures from extreme heat to extreme cold.
Work Environment The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud, with temperatures varying from extreme heat to extreme cold.
