This role involves conceptualizing, designing, testing, and validating automotive components using SolidWorks and / or Catia V5.
The ideal candidate will have a strong automotive engineering background, an understanding of design for manufacturability, and experience with engineering development processes.
Key Responsibilities
Conceptualize and create mechanical designs using SolidWorks and / or Catia V5.
Design components considering packaging environment, mounting strategy, and load conditions, even with limited information.
Plan and execute part evaluations on vehicles and develop component / system validation plans.
Collaborate with global Design, Production Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and Production teams.
Manage and interface with suppliers to ensure project deliverables are met.
Develop and execute Lean or Six Sigma process improvements.
Review, approve, and refine 3D models and 2D drawings created by junior engineers.
Conduct testing, validation, and prototype development for new designs.
Document project development and design processes.
Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget while identifying areas for improvement and cost reduction.
Create product introduction materials, including work instructions and exploded view parts manuals.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering with a focus on automotive, mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering.
8 to 10 years of experience in mechanical design & drafting using CAD software (SolidWorks, Catia, or equivalent).
Experience in the automotive industry with a strong understanding of engineering development processes.
Expertise in design and release of components and systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
Experience in surface modeling and data management systems.
Knowledge of DFMEA concepts and design for manufacturability.
Familiarity with air-cooled and turbo Porsche vehicles.
Strong knowledge of the automotive design process, including requirements definition, manufacturability, and component release.
Ability to solve complex design problems while optimizing function, cost, timing, and manufacturing constraints.
Proficiency in creating 2D drawings and 3D models of advanced mechanical components.
Understanding of customer expectations for luxury and high-performance vehicles.
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize large datasets into actionable plans.
Ability to lead projects, meet deadlines, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Experience using PowerPoint, Excel, 3D scanners, 3D printers, and data acquisition systems.
