Special Projects Manager 2
for the Airline’s
Taxiway Bravo Relocation Project . To meet this challenge, the Special Projects Manager will lead the full scope of project management work required to implement all phases of design and construction of an ATCT, ARFF station, runway rehabilitation, taxiway relocation, and other enabling projects. About King County International Airport (Boeing Field)
KCIA is one of the busiest primary non‑hub general aviation airports in the nation. Located just four miles south of downtown Seattle, it averages 180,000 aircraft operations each year. KCIA ranks among the most successful public investments in state history. The airport’s annual economic impact is $3.5 billion—supporting more than 16,000 jobs and providing $1.8 billion in labor income in the county. KCIA promotes the health of the aviation industry by establishing pipelines for employment and employee development. As a general aviation airport, KCIA serves small and commercial passenger airlines, cargo carriers (including UPS), private aircraft owners, helicopters, corporate jets, military and other aircraft. It is also the final delivery center for Boeing’s 737 aircraft and serves as the company’s military flight center along with other Boeing operations. The Museum of Flight is located on the airport property. Scope of Job Duties
Lead and orchestrate complex capital projects ensuring alignment with organizational goals, partner expectations, and community impact. Monitor and manage project schedules and budgets with precision, providing regular updates and strategic insights to senior leadership and external partners. Skillfully manage contracts in full compliance with county, state, and federal regulations. Provide visionary leadership and hands‑on guidance to project team members, cultivating a culture of excellence, growth, and mutual respect. Foster partnerships with internal teams, external collaborators, and the community. Promote a pro‑equity environment throughout all phases of project development and execution. We Are Looking For Candidates Who:
Have an exceptional record of successfully managing, developing, and/or implementing strategic initiatives and systems to deliver large‑scale airport capital improvement projects in alignment with the standards set by King County’s Capital Project Management Working Group (CPMWG). Are customer‑focused and comfortable advising senior and executive‑level management and key stakeholders on complex issues. Are organizationally and politically savvy; able to manage highly visible, complex, and sensitive projects involving multiple stakeholders with conflicting priorities. Have demonstrated experience working with multiple governmental agencies to prepare, advertise, negotiate, and execute design, construction, and procurement contacts in a timely fashion. Will ensure that airport projects meet the King County Strategic Climate Action Plan (SCAP) requirements and lead in sustainability and resiliency. Have demonstrated fiscal responsibility through thorough reporting, communication with KCIA Finance and Contracting team, timely notification, and diligent research. Will be accountable for quality assurance, safety, and ensuring that program planning, design, and construction phases meet King County SCAP, CPMWG, and FAA requirements. Can communicate effectively with KCIA Leadership, FAA, airport tenants, community, and other parties, in alignment with the King County True North Values. Is an excellent people leader with an understanding of how to manage effectively through others while fostering the next generation of airport executives. Is responsible for promoting a project‑wide pro‑ESJ environment in all project areas. Our Ideal Candidates Will:
Possess knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques related to airfield construction. Have a proven track record of managing multiple high‑visibility capital improvement projects and the ability to negotiate effectively with executive stakeholders. Possess excellent communication skills and an ability, both orally and in writing, to respond to public inquiries. Be a champion of equity and social justice and be comfortable having candid conversations with all employees and partners about these topics. PE license is highly desirable. This position will be working onsite at the King County International Airport. This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime.
