Job Summary Will oversee sales efforts on contractor material sales with a specialized focus on water and wastewater treatment plants. Lead and develop a sales team to exceed company sales and profit goals. Manage pricing parameters, defensive/offensive price actions, and integration of pricing strategy into sales objectives.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities And Key Accountabilities
Directly take part in sales calls with direct reports to strengthen customer relationships and uncover possible opportunities for growth. Manage a sales team and territory, account assignments, project management, estimating and quote development teams or business segment.
Develop direct and indirect reports, actively schedule sales meetings and events with internal teams, vendors and prospective accounts for the purpose of bidding jobs and securing new business. Forecast and achieve budgeted sales targets for assigned sales teams.
Communicate and negotiate special pricing and product availability with top vendors in the region.
Train and assist management on sales procedures.
Develop and maintain business relationships, strategically plan customer visits to cultivate relationships, perform presentations, offer innovative programs and communicate plans.
Analyze sales and operating reports for opportunities and establish initiatives to address deficiencies.
Plan, forecast and establish monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and profit goals for the national, regional, and local sales teams.
Negotiate national contracts and/or programs consistent with industry management goals.
Develop selling and customer service activities, implementing sales and customer retention programs to optimize sales performance, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
Report on sales and competitor pricing, activity and tactics.
Ensure sales associates perform account prospecting, regularly assess performance, and partner with business leaders to assign and reassign accounts to maximize revenue.
Conduct ride-along activities, train, motivate and provide coaching to sales associates in effective selling processes, strategies, and techniques.
Conduct ongoing recruitment and interview candidates to support the attainment of business objectives and responsible for succession planning.

Achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles and practical experience.
Manages a group or team of professional individual contributors and/or indirectly supervises support staff.
Work Environment
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires frequent overnight travel.
Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about. Occasionally there may be a requirement to stoop or lift light material or equipment (typically less than 8 pounds).
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age or older.
Must pass pre-employment assessment(s) if applicable.
Education And Experience
Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline.
Generally, 7+ years of experience in a related field. May require certification. An advanced degree may offset less experience in some disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
10+ years in the waterworks industry.
5+ years of outside sales experience.
2+ years of experience in direct management of area/regional sales managers.
2+ years of experience overseeing multiple states and 3+ outside sales reps within the treatment plant segment of waterworks.
2+ years of experience in direct management of project managers.
2+ years of experience in direct management of estimating managers.
Strong background in sales management within wholesale distribution.
Sound industry and product knowledge.
Experience in technical treatment plant specifications.
Achieves planned results by decisions and actions based on professional methods, business principles, and practical experience.
