Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. Using elements of GameStop’s buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Circle of Life, the Assistant Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and a shared passion for gaming. You will be responsible for ensuring that products are easy to see and buy, building sales by sharing product and gaming knowledge with guests, providing a clean, organized environment, and growing guest loyalty and repeat business. This position supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.
Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
Provide best‑in‑class guest service: promptly greet guests, respond to guest questions/concerns quickly and courteously, assist guests with meeting their gaming needs, inform guests of special promotions, recommend additional items as appropriate, apply all selling behaviors during every transaction, and prioritize guests over tasks.
Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and the guest relationships that drive repeat business.
Promptly and accurately process guest purchases and returns using the point‑of‑sale computer system, ensuring correct change, a receipt, and top‑notch service.
Respond to guest comments or questions in person or on the phone; answer calls promptly and professionally, escalating issues to the Store Manager when appropriate.
Promote GameStop’s guest benefits, such as new title reservations, trade‑in, and Pro Rewards.
Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations, training associates in company policies and procedures.
Observe associate performance, provide feedback to the Store Manager, and address unsatisfactory performance as directed.
Provide timely recognition to associates and document performance in the Workday/HR system.
Ensure associates complete onboarding, job training, and compliance training before beginning shifts.
Schedule associates, maintain staffing levels, and supervise staffing to maintain guest service.
Approve payroll, enter paid time off, and ensure associates are paid correctly.
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and merchandising throughout the store.
Fulfill and ship Omni‑Channel orders daily.
Protect company assets through effective inventory control and loss prevention.
Support the store team in meeting and exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals.
Perform inventory counts, stock and restock merchandise, and organize products alphabetically on the sales floor.
Count, balance, and reconcile daily business transactions in the POS; ensure accurate closeout paperwork and bank deposits.
Verify shipments for discrepancies, conduct merchandise counts, and communicate discrepancies to management.
Process defectives, recalls and stock pulls accurately and promptly.
Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety, report injuries, and address hazardous situations.
Assist in maintaining store records and manuals.
Supervise and delegate tasks to Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders when the Store Manager is absent.
Consistently adhere to all GameStop policies and procedures, including the Associate Handbook and the Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
Adhere to opening and closing procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must provide proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States.
Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.
At least 2 years of retail sales, guest service, or management experience preferred.
Video game knowledge preferred.

Provide genuine assistance to every guest on each visit.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Ability to meet objectives in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing environment.

Meet performance expectations, attendance, appearance, and safety standards.
Operate POS computer system.
Bachelor’s or higher math skills and alphabetizing abilities.
Complete required paperwork correctly.
Follow written, oral, or diagram instructions.
Execute financial tasks according to company policy.
Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays; minimum of 3 days/week availability.
Manage pressure, adapt to stress, and remain creative problem‑solver.
Reliable, trustworthy, and use good judgment.
Stand and move throughout the store unassisted for up to 12 hours.
Lift merchandise up to 30 lbs and perform basic fine and gross motor tasks.
Full‑time store positions are eligible for incentive programs, health benefits, paid time off, 401(k), employee discounts, and a casual work environment. Positions may also be eligible for bonuses or other incentives.
Pay: $15.75 - $19.75 per hour
