A 3‑day post invites applicants for an Accountant role in the Department of Economic Security (DES), Division of Technology Services (DTS), Phoenix, AZ.
Job Summary DES strengthens individuals, families, and communities for a better quality of life. The Accountant will perform accounting work related to information technology fiscal transactions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and proper cost allocation. The role may offer remote work within Arizona. The position logs a salary range of $40,495 – $56,453, Grade 20, closing date November 13, 2025.
Essential Responsibilities
Analyze and approve IT fiscal transactions such as billings, invoices, and payments, managing cloud, telecom, and software invoices.
Process P‑card transactions, app receipts, TEM invoices, contract service claims, payment vouchers, credit memos, and other accounting transactions.
Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and reports for accuracy and completeness.
Maintain and analyze budgets, comparing budgeted and actual costs, and reporting variances to management.
Survey operations to recommend solutions and manage IT asset depreciation and renewals.
Advise management on resource utilization, forecast assumptions, and conduct audits as required.
Develop and modify record‑keeping and accounting systems, documenting procedures and generating reports.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of economic and accounting principles, GAAP, internal controls, and fiscal management.
Knowledge of federal regulations, Arizona Revised Statutes, and agency policies.
Proficiency in financial research, automated financial systems, Microsoft Office, and G‑suite.
Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
Professional judgment in reviewing and approving fiscal transactions.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
Current, valid driver’s license (if required to operate a vehicle on state business).
Successful background and reference checks; completion of the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field and one year of experience as an Accountant 1 or equivalent.
