Position Summary Coaches are instrumental in fostering student personal growth and development in all interactions with student‑athletes, not limited to competitions and practices. Primary function: To develop Christian athletes while supporting the head coach in providing an exemplary program that will effectively and relentlessly pursue victory without sacrificing intentional Christian character.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Work cooperatively with the head coach and entire athletic staff
Support head coach in all program needs and endeavors
Maintain good public relations with media, board members, parents, officials, players, and fans
Demonstrate professional growth
Demonstrate leadership skills and Godly characteristics
Accept responsibilities outside the team as they relate to the school and community (i.e. Fresh Start Day, Open House)
Assume responsibility for care of materials, equipment and facilities
Assist head coach with keeping updated inventory of all equipment and uniforms
Assist head coach with daily practice/game needs
Assume responsibility for a clean, safe environment for student‑athletes committed to the coach’s care.
Demonstrate an interest in student‑athletes and the overall athletic program
Encourage self‑direction and self‑motivation in students
Support the clearly defined standards of behavior and academic performance
Demonstrate enthusiasm for coaching and learning
Other Responsibilities
Develop and maintain an excellent working relationship with other organizations, ensuring the school is well received and presented professionally and positively
Respect confidentiality of all personal and organizational information
Assist in other duties as needed and directed by the Athletic Director
Interaction
Interact internally with faculty, staff, and students. Interact externally with parents, schools, and the community.
Practice and promote positive interaction with and among student‑athletes, the school and community.
Communication
Communicate well with parents, student‑athletes, and other coaching staff both in verbal and written form.
Certifications
CIF Coaching requirements as deemed necessary by athletics administration
CPR & First Aid Certification is required for Coaches at all levels (i.e. varsity, junior varsity, frosh)
Job‑Related Qualifications Standards Education
Minimum Education requirements are dependent upon the level of coaching required
Work Experience
Minimum of one year coaching desired
Experience coaching at the high school level or higher desired
Experience coaching in a Christian school or faith‑based organization and/or non‑profit organization desired
Language Skills
Requires excellent verbal and written English communication skills
Ability to effectively respond to questions from staff, students, parents, and vendors
Additional Requirements
A good, helpful attitude and a team spirit is the hallmark of the support staff at MHS
Coaches are encouraged to be active in their local churches
Mental Demands
Accept responsibility for own actions
Follow through on commitments

Evaluation Performance of this position may be evaluated by the Athletic Director at any time during or following completion of the team’s season (i.e. winter, fall, spring). The head coach will also have input in assistant coach evaluations.
Work Environment The work environment can be indoors and/or outdoors. The environment is typically free from dust and hazardous materials.
Physical Demands Physical demands include lifting up to 20 lbs., with occasional and frequent weight ranges up to 50 lbs. and more than 50 lbs. Roles also involve bending, kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, squatting, twisting, walking, and carrying/leaning as appropriate to coaching duties.
